Unlike the cannabis-derived component THC, CBD has no psychoactive effects.
Alcohol can reduce inhibitions and make you feel relaxed whereas CBD may reduce anxiety, calm your nerves and reduce the symptoms of several illnesses. At present research into the effects of mixing alcohol and CBD is insufficient and may affect people differently. Consult a health professional before mixing alcohol with CBD and always start with low amounts to reduce the risk of side effects.
CBD Oil vs. Alcohol
CBD and alcohol are very different. Whereas alcohol is considered addictive, harmful and unhealthy CBD is known to have health benefits, it is not addictive and is a safe, natural supplement that can relieve the symptoms of many illnesses. Alcohol produces a euphoric, drunk or “high” effect whereas CBD, unlike THC, the active ingredient in cannabis has no psychoactive properties and can never make you high. CBD and alcohol have completely different effects on the mind and body and a completely different purposes. Alcohol is used as a recreational “drug” while CBD has no recreational use and is used exclusively for health purposes. Alcohol can be severely harmful while CBD is not known to have any harmful effects.
What Happens if your Mix CBD with Alcohol?
Some alcohol manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon of the recent widespread popularity of CBD and have produced alcoholic beverages infused with CBD. Some studies say that when taken together CBD may protect against some of the negative effects of alcohol whereas other studies show that mixing the two could amplify the effects of both the CBD and alcohol. Taking high doses of both CBD and alcohol together may cause sleepiness and even sedation. Other research shows that CBD may help reduce the symptoms of alcohol addiction and withdrawal; reduce liver and brain-cell damage caused by alcohol and decrease blood alcohol levels. More research is necessary and these results are not conclusively scientifically proved.
